In the heart of Uzhhorod, Nadia (which fittingly means “Hope”) continues to expand its transformative work serving friends with special needs. Working in partnership with the Greek Catholic diocese and Caritas International, this ministry has become a beacon of inclusion and dignity in the community.
The ministry’s weekly clubs bring joy and purpose through dance, art, reading, and music activities. As long-term partners, One Collective has had the privilege of supporting these activities and providing wax molds for their thriving candle cottage industry, which creates meaningful employment opportunities for the friends.
A significant milestone in Nadia’s vision is taking shape with the construction of a group home. This critical project will provide a loving alternative to institutional care for these friends when primary caregivers can no longer support them. Recently, Nadia hosted a Community Open House to raise awareness about this initiative, holding the event in the Greek Catholic diocese’s newly opened café – another successful employment program for these friends.
The Open House drew attention from key community leaders, including members of the Uzhhorod Rotary Club, Ukraine’s oldest Rotary chapter. Moved by the ministry’s work, the Rotary Club committed to funding an elevator installation, ensuring residents will have easy access to their second-floor living spaces in the group home. During the event, visitors like Marina experienced firsthand the friends’ capabilities through candle-making demonstrations.
These developments showcase how Nadia’s dedication is fostering a more inclusive community in Uzhhorod. Through their partnership with local organizations and supporters worldwide, they’re building a future where every person can live with dignity and share their unique gifts with society.
Our Transform Uzhhorod Alliance is grateful to partner with this impactful ministry as they continue transforming lives and breaking down barriers for friends with special needs in their community.
