Pastor Sasha Masiuk illustrates why we started the Sister Church Association. He and his wife Marina were forced to leave Kyiv as Russian troops began to surround their city. Most of the members of Youth of God Salvation Church had fled as well. A small remnant remained behind. Upon arriving in our city of Uzhhorod, Sasha was conscripted into the Ukrainian army and spent a year defending Ukraine fortunately stationed in our region. Marina began serving the IDP community and served in Church of the Living God where my wife and I attend. Once it was safe, their boys returned to Kyiv to keep their church alive with help from Christ Church of Lake Forest (IL) which became their Sister Church and lifeline. Once Sasha was released from servive, he and Marina were able to return to Kyiv to a church that needed to start over. Sasha has begun discipling new leadership. I had the joy of visiting and encouraging him in Kyiv during my layover on my way to Eastern Ukraine. Their Sister Church went way beyond their initial 6-month committment and supported the Masiuk’s for 18 months. We are now looking for a new Sister Church to help them restart their church.
