Summary of the Events of the Day
All attacks by Russian forces were repelled and Ukraine managed to take back two strategic towns around the besieged cities of Kharkiv and Sumy.
Battle for Kyiv (Kharkiv, Sumy, Chernihiv)
Kharkiv was again heavily attacked with 44 artillery strikes and 140 rocket assaults in one day. Ukrainian forces managed to shoot down another Russian plane. The Kharkiv Nuclear Power Plant was shelled, and significant damage was done to the heat-insulating cladding of the building. The shelling of the nuclear power plant could be dangerous and release deadly radiation.
The town of Trostyanets between Kharkiv and Sumy was recaptured by Ukrainian forces creating a wedge between the Russian forces attacking Sumy and those attacking Kharkiv. It also allows the forces in Sumy to be resupplied from the south. The commander of the Russian forces in control of Trostyanets committed suicide.
And in the evening the community of Mala Rohan, just east of Kharkiv, was retaken by Ukrainian forces.
Battle for Donbas (Donetsk, Luhansk, Mariupol)
Fighting was heavy in the Donbas, but Ukraine was able to repulse twelve attacks and destroy ten tanks. 11 homes were destroyed, a school near Lysychansk, and a hospital in Severodonetsk.
White phosphorous, a banned chemical weapon, was used against Ukrainian civilians in Avdiivka.
The humanitarian convoy that was allowed to bring civilians out of Mariupol two days ago was finally allowed past Russian posts and arrived in Zaporizhia. The number of dead in the bombing of the theater earlier has risen to 300 civilians.
All communication has been cut with Mariupol.
513 people trapped in a bomb shelter in Rubezhnoe under a bakery and school which had been bombed by Russian forces, were rescued even though the rescuers were constantly under fire by Russian forces.
Battle for the Black Sea (Kherson, Mykolaiv, Odesa)
Russian forces attempted an amphibious landing near Odesa but were wiped out. Later in the day two missiles were shot at Odesa but both were destroyed.
Ukrainian civilians protested again in Kherson and Russian forces fired gas grenades injuring many, but the protestors did not disperse and held their ground. WAR CRIME
Other Regions
Russia claimed to have destroyed an arms and ammunition depot near Zhitomir.
The oil reserve base near Dubne attacked yesterday did completely destroy the base. Another oil depot outside Lutsk was destroyed by missiles.
