Summary of the Events

UAF are slowly advancing retaking territory lost in the Donetsk region while repelling RF attacks towards Bakhmut. UAF have crossed the Oskil River and are heading east of Kupyansk.

Battle for the Donbas

Battle for Bakhmut – RF attacked along all fronts towards Bakhmut but were repelled on all fronts except possibly Mykolaivka Druha which may have been captured as it no longer appears on the Ukrainian General Staff reports. Fighting has resumed in Soledar and Bakhmutske.

Battle for Slovyansk – RF attempted an assault on Spirne but without success. UAF had more success liberating Yatskivka, Studenok, Sosnove, Korovii Yar, and Olexandrivka. UAF may also have liberated Bilohorivka, but it is not yet confirmed. If true, that means UAF have a foothold in the Luhansk region again. UAF have also broken through RF lines farther north liberating Lozove and reaching Ridkodub where they shot down a Russian jet.

Donetsk Line – RF continue to attempt to push UAF back from Donetsk, but without success.

Other Regions

Kharkiv – RF conducted another assault on Kupyansk to retake the strategic crossing on the Oskil River but were repelled. RF were not only repelled, but UAF have pushed east liberating Kucherivka and are fighting for Petropavlivka. UAF also crossed the Oskil River farther north and are fighting for Dvorichna.

Odesa – RF attacked the port city of Odesa with their new military drones provided by Iran on Friday. One of the drones was shot down, but two made it through the defenses and attacked a government building killing one civilian. Then on Sunday another three suicide drones attacked government buildings in the center of Odesa. A fourth was shot down. There were no casualties.

Other News

Ukraine exchanged Ukrainian traitor and godfather to Putin’s children, Viktor Medvedchuk, along with 50 Russian POWS in exchange for 108 soldiers who had defended Mariupol and 124 UAF officers held as prisoners.

International Support

British Prime Minister Liz Truss, in addressing the UN, promised to continue supplying Ukraine with weapons until it triumphs over Russia. US President Joe Biden also addressed the UN in a half hour report which included his unwavering support of Ukraine. But the highlight was the first televised address to the UN by President Zelensky who vowed that the only way to bring an end to the conflict was to punish aggression, restore security of Ukraine, security guarantees, restoration of all Ukraine territory, and the ability to defend.

The EU High Representative Josep Borrell held a meeting of EU ministers after the UN General Assembly calling on all Ukrainian territory, including Crimea, to be restored to Ukraine. Towards that end they will announce new sanctions on Russia soon.

President of the European Council Charles Michel, in a speech before the UN General Assembly, called for Russia to lose its seat on the UN Security Council, and thus lose its veto power.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned Russia’s plan in holding annexation referendums in Ukrainian occupied territories. He vowed it would never be recognized by the international community. He also agreed that Russia should lose its veto powers in the UN, but went further by calling for the suspension of the veto power from all countries that currently have that power including the U.S.

Russia is mobilizing another 300,000 troops, but as they will be untrained, it will only prolong the conflict, and will not lead to a Russian victory most experts agree. In response to this new mobilization, the G7 countries have vowed to increase sanctions on Russia. Russian men are fleeing Russia rather than be conscripted into the army. Over a thousand demonstrators were arrested in 38 different cities throughout Russia for participating in the largest demonstrations since the invasion of Ukraine started in February.
