The Vision

Designed as a private, small-group home, Blossom Cottage offers a nurturing, family-like environment where up to eight special needs children can heal, grow, and prepare for permanent family placements.

The Need

Ukraine’s orphanage system, inherited from the Soviet era, struggles to provide adequate care, especially for children with special needs. Large, distant state institutions often isolate children from their communities, further compounding their challenges.

Progress and Partnerships

In September 2024, the project broke ground, with over $290,000 of the $400,000 needed raised, thanks to partnerships with organizations like The Kimon Foundation. The “warm shell” frame is being raised, and the focus will then shift to preparing the interior with help from volunteer teams. The facility could open in late 2025.

Critical Challenges Ahead

  • Electricity: The site currently lacks power. A 30-50 kW line is needed to support construction and eventual operations.
  • Road Access: Limited infrastructure makes reaching the site challenging. Village authorities have plans to extend nearby roads, but further progress depends on the completion of the construction phase.
  • Volunteer Teams: Skilled teams are needed for interior framing and finishing. These efforts are planned for Spring and Summer 2025 and will play a vital role in transforming the structure into a home.
