Evangelical Church Plant – Velyki Lazy, Ukraine

Building Community and Faith in the Heart of Zakarpattia Oblast

Location & Community

Velyki Lazy is situated 5.25 miles north of Uzhhorod, the administrative center of Zakarpattia Oblast. The village has a population of 1,426 people, with an additional 10,000 people living within a 6-mile radius.

Background & Mission

One Collective founded the Transform Uzhhorod Alliance in 2013 to unite people in transforming Uzhhorod, addressing physical, social, and spiritual needs. The alliance has grown to include nine local churches, thirteen NGOs, and one educational institution.

Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the Alliance formed the Ukraine Collective to support IDPs and refugees. This led to the development of two IDP Communities in Guta and Velyki Lazy, including 28 homes in Velyki Lazy.

Project Progress & Funding

Current Funding Status

Raised: $98,280 of $180,780 total needed

Remaining Needs:

  • Interior Completion: $58,825 (walls, floors, ceilings, kitchen, office, bathrooms)
  • Furnishings: $23,675 (chairs, staging, sound equipment)

Community Impact

The church plant will serve multiple villages within a 10-kilometer radius, reaching a total population of 11,500 people. This will be the first evangelical church in the area.

Partnerships

One Collective will partner with local New Hope Evangelical Church for this plant, with support from many Alliance members and associates. Converge has partnered in providing church planting training.

Current Project:

Intalling the ceilings on both floora – $7000 needed.
