In the heart of war-torn Ukraine, where air raid sirens have become part of daily life, the Gospel continues to advance through the courageous faith of local believers and the steadfast support of Western churches. This truth was powerfully demonstrated recently when Svoboda Church, located near the frontlines, refused to let even the threat of bombardment stop their ministry to the next generation.
The church had organized a children’s day camp in their city center, bringing joy and hope to young hearts amid the ongoing conflict. When air raid sirens suddenly pierced the air mid-program, what could have been a moment of panic became instead a testament to resilient faith. Leaders and children scrambled together to the nearest bomb shelter, but rather than canceling the activities, the program simply continued underground. Songs of praise echoed in the shelter where fear might have reigned. Bible lessons proceeded where despair could have taken hold. The enemy may try to thwart God’s plans, but our Lord always provides a way forward.
This remarkable perseverance has been made possible through the prayers and financial partnership of churches like Christ Fellowship in West Chicago, Illinois, who have faithfully stood with Svoboda Church for three years through our Sister Church Initiative. Their support ensures that Ukrainian believers have the resources they need to continue ministering even when they must literally take their ministry underground. It’s a beautiful picture of the global body of Christ – when one part suffers, another part comes alongside to strengthen and support.
These partnerships remind us that the Gospel cannot be stopped by borders or bombs. While the enemy seeks to destroy and divide, Jesus Christ continues to build His church, using the generosity of Western believers to sustain their Ukrainian brothers and sisters who serve on the spiritual frontlines of this conflict. Every dollar sent, every prayer offered, becomes part of God’s provision for churches that refuse to stop proclaiming hope in the midst of war.
We invite you to prayerfully consider joining this vital mission through our Sister Church Initiative. Your partnership can help ensure that more Ukrainian churches have the resources to continue their ministry, whether in city centers or bomb shelters. All glory belongs to Jesus Christ, who sustains His people in every trial and uses His global church to display His faithfulness even in the darkest valleys. Through Him, ministry continues, hope persists, and the Gospel advances – even when it must happen underground.
