We made our first Sister Church Association (SCA) with First Baptist Church Alhambra in California and Bethany Baptist Church in Bucha, Ukraine. Pastor Matt has been to Ukraine and has taught at the Baptist Seminary in Odesa, Ukraine. So, he already had a heart for Ukraine. Pastor Sasha is an internally displaced person and lives with Marina and I along with his adult son (his wife and two children were able to leave for the Netherlands). As most of Sasha’s church members now live abroad (three of those who remained in Bucha were executed), the church is unable to support him and his family. This is the purpose of the SCA – to come alongside such pastors to help them through these difficult times until the church can get back on its feet. Sasha continues to bring humanitarian aid each weekend to his church and lead the worship service. As the situation has now become safer, he plans on returning to Bucha full time next week.
