Fires Reported in Crimea – Day 179 (August 21, 2022)

Summary of the Events

There was no change on the ground Sunday. UAF continue blowing up command centers and weapon depots and have intensified their attacks on military targets in Crimea. Ukrainian partisans behind the lines are also increasing their attacks.

Battle for the Donbas

RF conducted dozens of artillery, mortar, and air strikes all along the defense line, but made no gains on the ground.

Battle for Kherson (includes Mykolaiv)

UAF conducted five strikes against RF forces on Saturday hitting a weapon depot near Kherson and a Command Post. 75 Russian soldiers were killed in the attacks. Equipment destroyed included a self-propelled gun, two tanks, and six armored vehicles.

Explosions were heard throughout Mykolaiv late on Saturday night.

On Sunday, UAF shot down three Russian UAV drones over the Kherson region which were performing reconnaissance missions.

Battle for Kharkiv

RF conducted three missile strikes against Kharkiv on Sunday evening injuring one person and destroying at least one private home.

Other Regions

Crimea – Crimean Tatars reported that they saw 6-7 flashes of light over the horizon in the Black Sea while the air defense system at Sevastopol was alerted late Saturday night. Perhaps Ukraine made a successful attack on the Russian Black Sea Fleet. An explosion was heard in the port city of Sevastopol in the early hours of Sunday, but there was no visible smoke.

Dnipropetrovsk – RF fired MLRS rockets on Zelenodolsk on Sunday hitting a residential building, a kindergarten, and a junior sports school. One woman was killed and six seriously wounded, including three children.

Odesa – RF fired fire missiles at Odesa in the early hours of Sunday morning. UAF was able to shoot down two of them. The other three destroyed an agricultural enterprise including a grain storage facility.

Zaporizhia – Explosions are heard every day in Melitopol as partisans are attacking Russian occupiers throughout the city. On Hero Square on Sunday, several partisans lived up to the name of the square by cutting the throat of a Russian occupier as he was attempting to rape an underage girl.

Other News

Many trains arrived in Russian-occupied Ukraine over the weekend. The Ukraine Center for Strategic Communications warns that they are probably filled with missiles that Russia plans on launching at large number of Ukrainian cities on August 24, which is Independence Day in Ukraine. Kyiv city authorities have banned all large gatherings from August 22-25 and have told city government employees to work from home next week. Some military experts are even postulating that Belarus will join the war on this day and fire missiles as well.
