Russia Uses Illegal Cluster Bombs – Day 183 (August 25, 2022)

Summary of the Events

No change on the ground. RF continue to bomb and shell Ukrainian cities while UAF blows up RF weapon depots and command centers.

Battle for Kherson (includes Mykolaiv)

UAF air strikes hit four concentrations of RF. One strike was against a Russian air defense system near Nova Kakhovka. Also hit was a command and observation post of the Russian 33rd Motor Rifle Regiment, a military base, and a weapons depot. Both bridges over the Dnipro River were hit today destroying all repairs made by RF.

Electrical power had been cut off from Kherson and other communities in the region after RF attacked Enerhodar knocking out the supply from the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant to the region. As of now, power has been restored.

Battle for Kharkiv

The village of Lebiazhe in southern Kharkiv region was hit with a missile destroying a residential building. A 62-year-old man was killed, and his wife injured in the attack.

Other Regions

Dnipropetrovsk – RF conducted several missile attacks in the early morning hours. Illegal cluster bombs were fired from MLRS on Kryvyi Rih. Residential buildings were damaged, but there were no casualties. Several residential buildings were struck in Velykomykhailivka injuring eight people, three of whom were children. One child was only two years old. Nikopol was struck eleven times, but no casualties reported there. A missile heading to Dnipro was shot down by UAF air defenses.

The death toll of the railroad station in Chaplyne has risen to 25 with another two children and an adult discovered under the rubble. Another 31 people were injured.

Khmelnitsky – Two missiles struck a town in the region hitting residential buildings and injuring three people, two of whom were children.

Kyiv – RF fired four missiles on the Kyiv suburb of Vyshorod in the early morning hours. Two of the missiles were intercepted by UAF air defenses. No buildings were damaged in the attack and there were no casualties.

Sumy – RF shelled three border communities causing damage to a power line. No other details have yet been given.

Zaporizhia – RF shelled Enerhodar, even though they control the city, and blamed it on UAF. Electricity and water were knocked out in the city placing the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant in jeopardy of a nuclear disaster. But emergency power and water has been reconnected to the reactor.

RF shelled Orikhiv killing a teenager and destroying several private homes.

Other News

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed legislation increasing Russia’s army by another 137.000 troops to just over 2 million.

International Support

Spain announced they will give Ukraine an air defense system and armored vehicles. They will also train UAF in the use of the air defense system.

Italian Foreign Affairs Minister Luigi Di Maio made an unannounced visit to Kyiv to meet with President Zelensky.
