Ukraine takes back control of the skies – Day 25 (March 20, 2022)

Summary of the Events of the Day

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky released a patriotic video to the world which describes the spirit of the people who are not focused on what “was” but on what “will” be. – https://www.facebook.com/zelenskiy.official/videos/939890546565554/

He also noted that the only way out of this conflict is not war, but negotiations and has again requested a face-to-face meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Battle for the Skies

Ukraine has effectively taken back control of its skies preventing Russia from bombing their cities from planes. Russia continues to rain missiles on Ukrainian cities, though.

Battle for Kyiv (including Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, and Zhitomir)

The constant shelling of Chernihiv continues with 12 civilians killed on Sunday alone when a hospital was hit.

Battle for the Donbas (Donetsk & Luhansk regions)

The besieged city of Mariupol continues to be victimized by Russian war crimes. Two days ago Russians bombed a theater where 1000 women and children were sheltered. So far, only 130 have emerged alive with the rest presumed dead. Then on Sunday, Russia bombed a school where 400 women, children, and the elderly were sheltered. Casualties are not yet known.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia’s siege of Mariupol will do down in history as a war crime.

Ukraine called on China to condemn Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.

The Russian ruble lost 45% of its value in the early days of the war as worldwide sanctions came down hard on the country. They have since clawed back since peace negotiations with Ukraine have started and is now down 25% since Russia’s genocide against Ukraine started. Ukraine’s hryvnia, by comparison, has only fallen 4%.

International Support

Australia banned all exports of alumina and bauxite to Russia, which accounts for 20% of Russia’s supply.
