Sister Churches Transforming Uzhhorod Community Together

Transform Ukraine, in collaboration with One Collective, launched the Sister Church Initiative as a strategic response to the crisis facing Ukrainian churches amid the ongoing war. This initiative represents a new direction for One Collective, known for its focus on community transformation. In response to the urgent needs in Ukraine, they shifted to emphasize strengthening the church, aiming to provide stability in these tumultuous times.

This effort is crucial as many Ukrainian pastors are struggling financially due to significant decreases in their congregations, with many members either fleeing abroad or being drafted into military service. Through these partnerships, Western churches help ensure that Ukrainian pastors receive adequate salaries, enabling them to dedicate themselves fully to church ministries and support the growing numbers of internally displaced persons (IDPs).

This collaboration supports Pastor Victor in continuing his pastoral duties and caring for numerous displaced families that have sought refuge at his church. The impact of his ministry on the IDP community was highlighted in a recent video, showcasing the significant role the church plays in offering both spiritual and practical support to those displaced by the conflict.

It provides meals to IDP families during special occasions like Easter, operates an elementary school for Rroma children who face neglect in the public education system, visits sick individuals in hospitals, and recently organized a service to thank the municipal street cleaners of Uzhhorod for their services in maintaining the city. These actions demonstrate the church’s integral role in not only supporting its members but also contributing to the broader community’s welfare.

  1. Doug and Marina, Good seeing these faces. My spirit rises. Please assure those that we met with you there are so many of them, that they are in our prayers and hearts. Hope to see you in Sequim later this year. We return from Copenhagen 6/17, Lord willing. Sandy and Vern
